A lot of you are looking to embrace your natural hair and for that, you look for products that will fit your hair type. But, do your hair type, strand size and hair porosity?

97% of you will say no. but this is the first step in the curly hair journey. Even when you go to take any haircare quiz you will find questions related to hair porosity.

Your hair porosity is your hair's ability to absorb and retain moisture. In the above image, you can know how to check your curly hair porosity.

  • Low porosity hair has tightly bound cuticles therefore it’s hard for moisture to penetrate through, but once the moisture is in it doesn’t come out easily either.

  • High porosity hair has very open cuticles, sometimes caused by damage or it can also be hereditary. Moisture absorbs in and is released very quickly.

  • And Medium Porosity is in between the two.

So, what about the products?

Low Porosity: More moisture based curly hair care products. You will want to stay away from using protein too often or at all depending on your hair.

High Porosity: Your hair will need moisturizing products but will also need products with protein to help fill and close the cuticle while styling. Your hair needs a balance of both.

For styling, you can go with moisture-based cream like hair butter and mousse which will add the needed protein.
